Schmerzliches Bild meiner Phyllis Dolente immagine di Fille mia  Sad image of my Phyllis
Text:Giulio Genoino Text:Giulio Genoino  Text:Giulio Genoino
Schmerzliches Bild meiner Phyllis,
Warum sitzt du so düster neben mir?
Was wünschst du mehr?

Schatten der Phyllides, ruh in Frieden;
Unauslöschlich ist die alte Glut.

Dolente immagine di Fille mia,
perchè si squallida mi siedi accanto?
Che più desideri?
Dirotto pianto
io sul tuò cenere versai finor.

Temi che immemore de' sacri giuri
io possa accendermi ad altra face?
Ombra di Fillide, riposa in pace;
e inestinguibile l'antico ardor.

Sad image of my Phyllis,
Why do you sit so cheerlessly beside me?
What more do you want?
Till now I have shed
Bitter tears on your ashes.

Do you fear that, mindless of out sacred vows,
I could be kindled by another flame?
Shade of Phyllida, rest in peace;
Our old love is unquenchable.

Meines brennenden Verlangens,
Nach ihr, die mit Liebe mich erfüllt,
Und zählst die Herzschläge und Seufzer.

Sag auch ihr, daß die Entfernung
Meinen Schmerz nicht lindem kann,
Wenn ich eine Hoffnung nähre,
So nur für die Zukunft.
Sag ihr auch, daß Tag und Nacht
Ich die Stunden meines Schmerzes zähle,
Daß eine verführerische Hoffnung
Mich in meiner Liebe stärkt.

Vaga luna, che inargenti
queste rive e questi fiori
ed inspiri agli elementi
il linguaggio dell'amor;
testimonio or sei tu sola
del mio fervido desir,
ed a lei che m'innamora
conta i palpiti e i sospir.

Dille pur che lontananza
il mio duol non può lenir,
che se nutro una speranza,
ella è sol nell'avvenir.
Dille pur che giorno e sera
conto l'ore del dolor,
che una speme lusinghiera
mi conforta nell'amor.

Lovely moon, you who shed silver light
On these shores and on these flowers
And breathe the language
Of love to the elements,
You are now the sole witness
Of my ardent longing,
And can recount my throbs and sighs
To her who fills me with love.

Tell her too that distance
Cannot assuage my grief,
That if I cherish a hope,
It is only for the future.
Tell her that, day and night,
I count the hours of sorrow,
That a flattering hope
Comforts me in my love.

L'alba sepàra dalla luce l'ombra
Text by Gabriele d'Annunzio (1863-1938)

Stelle tristi, spegnetevi incorrotte!
Morir debbo.

The dawn divides the darkness from the light,
And my sensual pleasure from my desire,
O sweet stars, the hour of death is now at hand:
A love more holy sweeps you from the skies.

Gleaming eyes, O you who'll ne'er return,
sad stars, snuff out your uncorrupted light!
I must die, I do not want to see the day,
For love of my own dream and of the night.

Envelop me, O Night in your maternal breast,
While the pale earth bathes itself in dew;
But let the dawn rise from my blood
And from my brief dream the eternal sun.

Lydia
Text by Charles-Marie-René Leconte de Lisle (1818-1894)
L'or fluide que tu dénoues;

Le jour qui lui est le meilleur,
Oublions l'éternelle tombe.
Laisse tes baisers de colombe
Chanter sur ta lèvre en fleur.

Un lys caché répand sans cesse
Une odeur divine en ton sein;

dein Haus, dein Fenster verlassen;

Porque no nos ven hablar;
tu corazón y al mio
A Se lo pueden preguntar.

Ya me despido de tí,
De tu casa y tu ventana,
Y aunque no quiera tu madre,
Adiós, niña, hasta mañana.

They say we're not in love
because we're not seen talking;
but let them ask
your heart and mine!

I must leave you now,
leave your house and your window;
and though your mother may disapprove, goodbye, dearest, till tomorrow!

Leute, die
im Glashaus sitzen,
sollten keine Steine werfen
auf ihre Nachbarn.
Wir sind Fahrende;
es mag sein, daß auf dem Weg
wir uns treffen.

Wegen deiner Untreue
vergleiche ich dich
mit einer Münze, die geht
von Hand zu Hand,
bis sie so glatt gerieben ist,
daß man sie für wertlos hält
und keiner sie haben will.

Cualquiera que el tejado
Tenga de vidrio,
No debe tirar piedras
Al del vecino.
Arrieros semos;
¡Puede que en el camino
Nos encontremos!

Por tu mucha inconstancia
Yo te comparo
Con peseta que corre
De mano en mano;
Que al fin se borra,
Y créyendola falsa
¡Nadie la toma!

People who live
in glass houses
shouldn't throw stones
at their neighbour's.
We are drovers;
it may be that on the road
we shall meet.

For your promiscuousness
I compare you
to a coin that passes
from hand to hand
until it's rubbed so smooth
that it's thought bad
and no one will take it.

DER UNBEKANNTE PRINZ CALAF CALAF
Keiner schlafe! Keiner schlafe!
Auch du, Prinzessin,
in deinen kalten Räumen,
blickst schlaflos nach den Sternen,
die flimmernd von Lieb'
und Hoffnung träumen!
Doch mein Geheimnis wahrt mein Mund;

No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò,
quando la luce splenderà!
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
il silenzio che ti fa mia!

Dilegua, o notte!
Tramontate, stelle!
Tramontate, stelle!
All'alba vincerò!
Vincerò! Vincerò!

No man will sleep! No man will sleep!
You, too, oh Princess,
in your virginal room
are watching the stars
that tremble with love
and hope!
But my secret lies hidden within me,
no one shall discover my name!
Oh, no, I will tell it only to your lips,
when daylight shines forth
and my kiss shall break the silence
that makes you mine!

Depart, oh night!
Set, you stars!
Set, you stars!
At dawn I shall win!
I shall win! I shall win!

E passeranno i giorni,
ed io non tornerò...
Minnie, della mia vita mio solo fiore,
Minnìe, che m'hai voluto tanto bene!
Ah, tu della mia vita mio solo fior!
Let her think I'm free and far away,
on my way to a new life! ...
She 'll wait for me to return...
and the days will pass,
and I won't come back...
Minnie, only flower of my life,
Minnie, you who have loved me so much!
Oh, you, the only blossom in my life!
